1. According to the article, what are some reasons that students find Shakespeare difficult to understand? What does Mack present as an answer to this? Many students find Shakespeare difficult to read because of the language he uses in his works. Not much of his pieces are straight forward and written in a context similar to today’s writing style with the old English turning many students away from Shakespeare. The best way to understand Shakespeare and enjoy what you are reading is by reading it over and over again. Ophelia Advice

I found Laertes’ and Polonius’ advice to Ophelia to be a little blunt and aggressive. They treat her like she has no wits about her and has no clue what is going on around her. It is a bit condescending both of their tones towards her treating her more like an object then someone they actually care for making sure she doesn’t do anything stupid to shame the family name. Though it is necessary for them to warn her of Hamlet because he very well will break her heart as it is impossible for him to marry her. Hamlet has no choice who he marries as he is royalty and needs to do what is best for the crown and it is very unlikely Ophelia is good for crown. In short, the warning of Hamlet was needed but they did it in such a way that it seemed mean and degrading for Ophelia.

The Terrorist, He Watches

  Wislawa Syzmborska poem The Terrorist, He Watches takes a modern look on war poetry. Syzmborska uses the modern battlefield of cities and public places and the enemy of today, those who wish to disrupt peace through radical acts of violence. One of the big questions of the poem is who is speaking.     Based on the title of the poem The Terrorist, He Watches the speaker can be two people. They can either be the terrorist himself watching over what he is about to bomb or a bystander watching as the terrorist sets up his evil act. While reading the poem, I leaned more towards the speaker being a bystander because of a single line in particular “The terrorist's already on the other side.” This line makes it appear as though someone is watching the scene unfold and has located the terrorist and is telling the reader where they are. This would make the most sense in the feel of the poem as to why would the terrorist be so concerned about who walks in and out of the bar. ...
